Michael Amott, better known as the guitarist from death metal bands Arch Enemy and Carcass, formed Spiritual Beggars as a side project in 1993 after leaving Carcass.

Spiritual Beggars, defined as a 'stoner metal' band, combines elements of psychedelic rock, blues rock, traditional heavy metal, doom metal as well as being heavily influenced by the hard rock bands of the 1970's.
