john lee hooker

Born 22nd August 1917 to Mississippi sharecroppers in Clarksville, Hooker played music drawn from the heart of the Deep South. Moving to Detroit in the 1940's.
Toured Britain a long side other blues legends in the early sixties which resulted in the British blues boom. Ironically it was only then he became better known back in the USA
In 1967 Detroit was on fire after the most violent riots in American history. 43 dead, 467 injured, 7200 arrests, and over 2000 buildings destroyed.
Here's Hooker's 'The Motor City is Burning'. (also with Buddy Guy on guitar)
