Get a load of these guys. 'Jeremy Irons and the Ratgang Malibus' and no that's not the film actor Jeremy Irons in a psyche band but 4 Swedish guys - vocalist/guitarist Karl Apelmo, guitarist Micke Pettersson, bassist Viktor Källgren and drummer Henke Persson, and besides from a rather arch sense of humour, they're turning out a new album in April with a very fine sound on Small Stone Records.
Here's their record labels brief :
-
"Peddling the finest in rock n' roll, psychedelic, stoner, doom, blues, hard rock, fuzz, metal, sludge, vintage 70's style rawk, etc, since 1995!!! True, honest music, made by real, honest people...
Which maybe a little like over prescribing the medication but one listen and you'll hear this band fit right in with their vision. Now on their 3rd album, JIRM have an unique way of absorbing the influences they extoll, "for fans of Jeff Buckley, Can, Neu, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Tame Impala, Pink Floyd."
Like many of their Swedish rock conspirators it's obvious they've got something of an education in rocks history and sharp ear for a good tune. Check the singing here, definitely a young Robert Plant feel. Great guitars, great drumming. What more could you need (well a picture of them would have been good but you try a search on that name and you'll be faced with a wall of portraits of a middle aged actor).
Anyway buy this track for a dollar if you dig it, better still put in for that 10 dollar advance order on the album 'Spirit Knife'. It should be one of the highlights of the year. Available on CD, vinyl, and download at their Bandcamp..
