There's not too many out there who are going take on Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac classic 'Oh Well' without coming off second best. But then again if you'd want ZZ Top's Billy F Gibbon to pick a Fleetwood Mac tune to cover 'Oh Well' would have to be top of the wish list. And Gibbons swallows it in one giant Texas bourbon mouthful as if saturated from a heavy night on the rocks. Played at a bleary eyed third of the original tempo he slurs the heaviest blues licks and lyrics right through it.
The track was originally included on a Fleetwood Mac tribute compilation album (pictured in the video) but it's been recently lassoed from that and is now out as a vinyl single on the Drag City label (could there be any other).
Nearly 5 minutes of Oh Well as a Texas back beat blues boogie in slow motion.. and just like the original, it still includes a cowbell. Could there be a better tribute?
