eddie vedder

Eddie Vedder, most famous for being the frontman of grunge band Pearl Jam, has over the years become one of the icons of alternative rock.

Vedder worked on Chris Cornell's Temple of the Dog album in 1990 providing vocals and backing vocals. The album was a tribute to Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood, who died in March 1990 of a heroin overdose.

1990 was also the year that Pearl Jam was formed by guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament who auditioned Vedder for the vocalist role and within a week he had joined the band. Pearl Jam's first album Ten was an instant success, and Pearl Jam would go on to become one of the grunge era's most successful bands.

Vedder has contributed with many other artists including other grunge artists, mainstream pop musicians and even playing live on stage with Johnny Depp. Although most known for his vocals, he is a talented musician who along with playing the guitar, plays the ukulele, harmonica, accordian and many others.

In 2007 Eddie Vedder released his first solo album, the soundtrack to the film Into the Wild about the American adventurer Christopher McCandless who died in the wilderness aged 24. The album is a folk/rock album and features a cover of the song Hard Sun written by the Canadian musician Gordon Peterson who performed under then name Indio.
