fields of the nephilim

Fields of the Nephilim are a gothic rock band formed in the early 1980's in the English town of Stevenage. The band was formed by Londoner Carl McCoy, who left in 1991 and the band went on hiatus until 1998 when McCoy rejoined with some of the original band members. Although the band has released a couple of albums since its reformation, McCoy remains the only original member of the band.

McCoy grew up in a deeply religious family and from an early age learnt about biblical stories before becoming interested in the occult which plays a large influence on the style and the lyrics of the band. A lot of McCoy's work also references Aleister Crowley, with one of Fields of the Nephilim's songs sharing a name with one of Crowley's novels.

Fields of the Nephilim's live performances are as interesting as the music itself, with McCoy hinting that they are magical or shamanic experiences. Check out Fields of the Nephilim's Mourning Sun live...
