So by the early-mid 1960's the British Beat Boom had hit the USA and was fully integrated into the minds of the young American wanting to form a rock and roll band.
They had their own take on it and produced a succession of groups all termed in retrospect as Garage Rock which also overlapped into Blues and Psychedelic bands. Also later to become Garage Punk because of it's influence to punk rock's origins but that's normally claimed by the critics rather than a conscious act by the bands at the time, although it could be said the first American punk bands were more likely to have that as an influence then the UK ones.
Then in the early 2000's a revival of the Garage sound was evident in the White Stripes, The Strokes, Black Keys and others.
