No one else readily springs to mind with the word "tribute" attached to their name in quite such a short time, although it's clear The Black Keys are a unique crew.. "have built a huge underground fan base through near-constant touring of small clubs, frequent album releases, and extensive licensing of their songs".
The commercial crossover came in 2010 with critical and Grammy acclaim to their latest albums, followed by their first arena tours (oh no) .
But so far this has all been mainly major USA league stuff, so no doubt the world is next.
The new tribute album (full title - BLACK ON BLUES: A Tribute To The Black Keys) has a whole bundle of artists taking part, Iggy Pop & Ginger Baker, Walter Trout, Leslie West, Albert Lee, Pat Travers and more.
You'll note these are elder statesmen of rock and blues and are probably relieved to have some younger dudes writing music they can actually cover. Smart move by the record label. Publicity for all.
Whether of course the album makes us want to hear more of the Black Keys is probably irrelevant as one click on YouTube and you'll get a fist full of Black Keys over the years. One things for certain they are one of the very few Rock and Blues outfits that have been successful in recent years.
