Death Angel are a Filipino American metal band who emerged in the early days of the San Fransisco Bay Area thrash metal in the early eighties. The band released an early demo in 1986 which was produced by Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett who they met in 1983. The demo became a hit in the metal scene and they had a big underground following, this lead to their first record deal with the bands first album being released in 1987 before any of the band members were even 20 years old.
In late 1990 the band were involved in an accident where their tour bus crashed, seriously injuring drummer Andy Galeon who took over a year to recover. The remainder of the band continued to perform a few shows with a stand in drummer, but when they declined to hire a replacement drummer the record label dropped them and the band split up.
After the recovery of Andy Galeon, some of the band reformed under a new name focusing on different musical themes. In 2001 Death Angel officially reformed for the benefit concert Thrash of the Titans and due to such a positive reception have been going strong since.
