type o negative

Type O Negative formed in the early nineties, however the bands roots go back to the seventies when some of the band members played in a band called Northern Lights. Type O Negative are typically a metal band who developed their own individual style of a stoner goth type metal, sometimes referred to as doom metal, with a lot of the lyrical themes focusing on romance and depression. 

The bands 'live' album The Origin of the Feces is interesting as the album is not actually a live concert recording. The band were under contract to release a live album, the money provided to release the album was spent by the band who then went on to re-record previous songs and adding in live noises and a fake fight with the audience. The record company was not impressed by this stunt, but released the album any way. 

14 April 2012 also marked the second anniversary of the death of frontman Peter Steele. Steele was known to suffer depression and had been a heavy drinker, he had been sober for a long time prior to his death.
