A name not mentioned that much in the modern times. As a young 15 year old he was considered a genius of the guitar. Friend of Jimi Hendrix before he found success in England in 1967, Randy California went on to form Spirit with drummer Ed Cassidy. A psychedelic fusion sound that stood them apart from other rock bands of the time. They were due to open for Hendrix at the Woodstock festival but Spirit's management in their infinite wisdom decided to nix that for touring the latest album.
Badly depressed by the death of Jimi Hendrix he left Spirit and released his own album Kapt. Kopter & The Fabulous Twirly Birds, that could easily have been dedicated to Jimi's style of song and guitar.
Randy California died in 1997 rescuing his son from drowning.
Here he plays 'Hey Joe'
