berry oakley

On November 11, 1972, Berry Oakley, bass player with the Allman Brothers, died after being involved in a motorcycle accident in Macon, Georgia, just three blocks from where Duane Allman had his fatal motorcycle accident a year before. Berry was just 24 years old.
When Duane died Oakley became devastated, according to drummer Butch Trucks. The band continued touring but Oakley "lost his sparkle" and started drinking heavily.
In just 12 months the deaths of Duane and Berry had ripped the heart out of the band.
Here they are playing at the Fillmore East in 1970.
